Our walking tour of Madrid’s cultural highlights unfolds like a book of legends, beginning with a symbolic statue of an animal and ending with an ancient gift from Egypt to Spain.
You’ll meet your tour guide in the very heart of Madrid at Puerta del Sol, where you can touch (a certain spot on) “El Oso y el Madroño,” a bronze statue of a brown bear eating strawberries from a tree. The bear and strawberry tree are emblems on the Spanish capital’s coat of arms… but your guide can tell you much more about this.
You’ll hear stories throughout the tour, revealing both Madrid’s history and mystery. Hear what Plaza Mayor was like when it was once the center of old Madrid. Visit the Almudena Cathedral and try to guess when it began. See the Miguel de Cervantes statue in Plaza de España to learn about “Don Quixote” and Spanish literature.
What tour of Madrid would be complete without seeing the Royal Palace and hearing stories about Spain’s royal family? We’ll also visit the prestigious Royal Theater and the Temple of Debod, an actual Egyptian temple that dates back to 200 BC.
